Two European electric scooter businesses reportedly held merger talks at the end of 2018 because of the increasing competition of well-funded US rivals.
Swedish electric scooter business VOI was in talks to merge with German rival Tier, according to a report in Bloomberg.
The businesses allow customers to rent electric scooters through an app, with customers then able to park the scooters on the pavement when they reach their destination.
However, well-funded US businesses Lime and Bird have expanded to Europe and threaten to dominate the scooter market here because of the wide range of competing local services.
