Spotify’s expansion into India has hit a barrier after recording company Warner Music Group launched legal action to block it from offering songs by popular artists including Katy Perry, Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran.
Warner Music filed an injunction with the Bombay High Court to prevent it from using its material.
The music streaming giant, which planned to launch in India in the coming weeks, says that Warner Music Group is the “lone hold-out” in the way of its expansion taking place.
A Spotify spokesperson said: “Warner Music Group’s abusive behavior would harm many non-Warner artists, labels and publishers, and prevent Spotify from competing in the market.”
